DNA GENES: Page 1

Teachers, Students, Home School Scholars, and Inquiring Minds of all ages --

The DNA sequence of a chromosome can do more than code for specific proteins.  These other functions include the means to regulate which genes are working and which idle.  In addition, there are long stretches that do not code for proteins, nor have they been found to function to regulate gene activity or DNA synthesis.  The exact function, if any, remains elusive.

Like the length of the proteins they code for, genes come in different sizes.

Each gene, regulation site, and site of unknown function exists in specific locations on specific chromosomes.
